Recipe & Food Styling | Shahi Mushroom Curry – To jump off the cliff and learn how to make wings on the way down..

The lessons you learn the hard way are always the ones that stick…

All along, and ever since I was first exposed to commercial food styling shoots, it really hit me to think that how smooth my transition would have been had there been someone to guide me through the nitty gritty of food styling.

Back then, I was fairly new to the commercial world of food styling and had no mentor whom I could observe or assist. I had to jump off the cliff and learn how to make wings on the way down 🙂

Recipe & Food Styling | Steamed rice dumplings aka Kozhukattai – Happiness is a choice that requires effort at times

Amma, could you believe that I made close to 140 perfect looking Kozhukattais (steamed rice dumplings) yesterday for the shoot… Iniya  the actress who acted in the commercial, rushed towards me after the shoot and asked if she could take a few of those brown coloured yummy Kozhukattais  home.” I paused for a while sipping the strong & frothy filter coffee and stretched my legs to sit comfortably on the large wooden swing in my mother-in-law’s living room.

Recipe & Food Styling |Two Easy Indian Curries – Enjoying the roller coaster that is life..

You must give up the life you planned in order to have the life that is waiting for you.” ~ Joseph Campbell

Infact, I had no plans or any set goals for my life before jumping onto the bandwagon of food blogging. The only time when I needed to make a so called ‘plan’ was when I had to visit the grocery store, my doctor’s clinic, parents meet at school, activity classes for kids or to deposit cheques in the bank.

Life has suddenly become very fast and busy with a sudden spur of activities over the last few years.

Recipes | Cooking with Thuthuvalai – A tiny herb and a few healthy recipes

‘All good food comes with a story, and the stories need sharing as much as the food‘.

Wait, don’t keep that box for washing…taste the dish in it and tell me how is it?” asked hubby, who saw me holding and sniffing that small blue box. The tiny box and the food inside looked unfamiliar to me.

Hmm..it does taste good, but what is it and how did it come in your lunch-bag?” staring at him, I asked.

My colleague KC brought this Kulambu (curry) for lunch today. I found the recipe quite interesting and asked him to pack a little for me so that you can taste and try it at home.” Hubby smiled and answered, clearing the doubt in my mind.

Recipe & Food Styling | Orange scented Dry fruits Shahi Pulao – Passion creates positive energy

Passion creates positive energy and we feed on that energy to stay motivated. ~ #onlineread

I am blessed by a number of things I love to do. Painting, travelling, cooking, reading, sketching, gardening, photography and many such activities. I do not find my diverse interest as a dilemma and love to engage myself in some of these activities whenever time permits.

But – well, there exists another life. A real world, where there is a laundry to be cleared, grocery shopping, doctor’s appointments, a hungry family to feed, activity classes for children and the never ending list of mundane daily chores.

Recipe and Food Styling | Vegetable Biryani – Life does exist. It’s the purpose that counts

Life does exist. It’s the purpose that counts.” ~Toba Beta

Is your life passion-driven or purpose-driven” the lady sitting next to me in the lunch room asked.

I looked at her and smiled. I couldn’t comprehend her question and was at a loss of words for a minute.

It was during a photo-shoot last week where I met this beautiful lady who works as an art director. She was assisting a jewellery shoot adjacent to my room. We were having lunch together when she checked my blog on her mobile and asked me about my work.

But your looks, accent, mannerism…I can’t believe you are not a South Indian….you don’t look like a Rajasthani  to me from any angle” her gaze narrowed on my face.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do” I replied with a cheery grin pulling out my glasses from the box and getting ready for the interview to follow.

She nodded with a naughty smile and started the audio recorder.

Dreams don’t work unless you do.”~ Maxwell

A crazy week of food photo-shoot at Isha yoga center, and I am back home…finally.

With no running around carrying heavy loads of props and no more shots to plan for the days, it feels good to relax & enjoy a bowl of home-cooked ‘Poha’ and ginger tea on my swing.

Hmm… it has been 4 years since I started my first food styling shoot for Brown Tree.

I now have successfully completed more than 15 projects for well know companies and brands of India.

The year 2014 has been a whirlwind. It has gifted me with more than my fair share of perfect moments with family, friends and work life.

The year started with a hectic 2-days photo shoot for Savorit brand to doing television commercials and many Ad shoots round the year.

I met many amazing food bloggers during an exciting IFBM meet at Bangalore to doing product ideation event for Kelloggs brand in Mumbai.

Recipe | Steamed Savory Cornflour Buns or Makki ke Dhokle – Picking a few beads of memories from childhood days..

Life is a rough biography. Memories smooth out the edges.’ Dante G.

Time can forget some memories, but there are some memories which can make us forget time and those memories make life sweeter.
Growing up in 1960s and 1970s meant that we remained uninfluenced by technology and many other complex electronic gadgets. In simple words, our life was practically devoid of many material things such as Barbie dolls, Lego sets, Television, computers and cell phones. Which indirectly helped us enjoy nature and human relationships to its fullest form.
