Recipe | Healthy Papdi Chaat Tarts- It’s all about sharing my love for food

“What keeps me motivated is not the food itself but all the bonds and memories the food represents.” M. Chiarello
I was slightly disturbed reading a message from a reader last evening which read like this “I love your recipes, but please include step-wise pictures of the recipes and increase the frequency of your blogposts.”
To which my reply was, “I am glad that you like the recipes here. But please understand that Lite Bite is not just a recipe blog, it’s my personal diary where I also love to share my …

Recipes | Healthy Dill and Potato Oats Crackers – One opportunity leads directly to another

‘When you take the step towards your dreams, you will be met with fears because you have never traveled this way before. As you go, you will discover that you had nothing to fear.’ ~ Gardner

Just as risk leads to more risk, one opportunity leads directly to another. And talking about this opportunity, quite honestly, I never thought that such opportunities could come my way through food blogging.

Some days back, I received a call from a representative of a very popular multinational food manufacturing company

Recipes | Finger Millet Bread and Wheat Bran Slices – When the going gets tough, bake a bread

I picked up the bowl, pulled out the soft & sticky dough, placed it on my wooden board and started punching it vigorously.

Yes, you got it right, I am baking bread again. Well, with the dates of an important family function nearing, bread making should be the last thing on my mind.

But then, when your to-do list is a mile long and it is getting difficult to focus on the mounting task at hand I resort to baking bread.

Baking bread at home is the best remedy when nothing is working and you don’t know where to start.

Recipes | Whole-wheat Bread & Mini Date Ring-Cakes – Travel to Reconnect with our Roots

Stop. Take a deep breath. And walk, fly or catch a train away from the city and into a world where the average pace of life is slower than slow. “It is not down in any map, true places never are”  ~Herman Melville.

Five years of Food blogging has completely changed the way I thought my life will take me few years back. Life now, is fast paced and hectic than ever. And so are my endless ‘to-do‘ lists and ever growing goals year after year.
Yes, its time to slow down the pace of life, forget cell phones, turn off the computer and disconnect with online media to get more focused and to enjoy the small moments in life.

Recipes | Charmagaz Curry and Pita Bread – Reliving Childhood Memories

Food is a gift and should be treated reverentially – romanced and ritualized and seasoned with memory” ~ Chris Bohialian
For some time now I was thinking about the spicy Chole (chickpeas) with fluffy deep-fried Bhature (flat breads), mom used to make during weekends in Udaipur.
The star ingredient of the recipe is CharmagazCharmagaz is an assortment of four different seeds of Cucurbitaceous plants. Musk melon, water melon, pumpkin and cucumber seeds together are called CharmagazChar is a Hindi word fo four and Magaz means intelligence.

Apart from making a healthy, filling and delicious snack, Charmagaz is extensively used in Rajasthani cuisine. If Rajput families use a paste of these seeds for their exotic non-veg cuisine then the Marwaris make scrumptious desserts using the same.

Recipes | Three Eggless Wholegrain Cookies and being Thankful for the Choices I Have Made in Life

There is nothing more admirable than when you see your work getting recognized in your own homeland, all the more so, when you are staying away from it. But as they say, we may leave a house or a town, but that does not mean those places leave us.

Whenever I miss my hometown in Udaipur, I would sneak into this online News portal ‘Udaipur Times’ for hourly updates and latest happenings in my town. But never thought that some day I will make ‘News’ in the same.

And just when I was sitting back and reminiscing about what all good the year 2013 has brought in for me, I got yet another pleasant surprise. I found my name in the list of “Top 30 Indian Food Bloggers of 2013, first on Awesome Cuisine and then on Rediff.com, a very trendy online web portal.

I couldn’t have asked for anything better. These are times when I take pride in what ever I have achieved and feel thankful for the choices I have made in life.

Recipes | Three Healthy Wholegrain Cookies – Baking is Pure Magic

My kitchen is warm from the heat of oven and the smell of baked cookies is driving me crazy. Baking is pure magic. I know, I have repeated the statement over and again in many of my posts…can’t help.

Flour, butter and a few add-on and you have one of the crunchiest of goodies to munch upon. Baking cookies is such a cinch and I often involve my children in the process of rolling and cutting out cookies.
But I don’t wish to keep posting recipes alone which will dilute the purpose of my blogging. I blog to share memories and the nostalgia associated with the food alongside the recipes I cook in all my blog posts.

That hand-written small piece of paper struck with a magnet on my fridge ‘There is a life beyond your blog, Sanjeeta, go easy’ keeps me grounded.

Recipes | Baking 5 Easy Muffins to Realize that Joy Multiplies When Shared Among Friends

When the phone rang I was in the kitchen, making my evening tea, humming and swaying to the music of yesteryear’s on FM radio.

We have an invite for ‘R’ s 20th marriage anniversary tomorrow. It will be a small gathering of about six families, please decide upon some useful gift for the couple.” Said hubby and disconnected the phone.

Hmm….time to catch up with some old friends after a long gap….good that I always have a few sets of useful kitchenware, books and similar stuffs in store for such unexpected invites, when I don’t have time to go out and shop.

I picked up a beautiful light brown ceramic set of 6 coffee mugs I bought last year from Pondicherry and wrapped in a purple cover laced with small flowers and dots.

Recipes | Sugar Free Date Rolls and Millet Churma Ladoos – The Power of Food to Bring Back Good Memories

Various legends associated to the origin of a festival in India leads to different rituals people follow to celebrate it which keeps the ‘amusement quotient’ quite high.
I received a call from the office of a very popular regional magazine  Dinakaran, sometime back. The editor informed  me that they are planning to feature 7-8 celebrities from various fields in Chennai with a traditional sweet recipe from their respective states in their special Diwali issue. And I am one among them.

What“!? I almost screamed…err..huh…did I hear it right?

Recipes | Sesame & Banana Flapjacks or Granola Bars – Traditions Are Priceless

But Tatha, what about those who are left hander, how can you ask them to perform rituals with right hand?” I heard my son arguing with his grandfather who insisted that he use right hand to offer flowers during a Puja at home.

After the Puja rituals were over their grandmother took a little bit of all the food offered to God and went backdoor. She then placed the food on boundary wall and started calling the crows..Caa..Caa…

Why do you always offer food to crows granny, why not a sparrow or a parrot?” questioned my daughter.

Tatha, I read it somewhere that tradition is an explanation for acting without thinking, is it so?”  And the argument between grandparent and grandchildren continued.
