Mid-term holidays for children had started and we finalized a pretty destination for our vacation. Two photo-shoot calls and I had to re-schedule our trip and change it to a weekend getaway.

The photo-shoot this time was an independent project for Isha Life restaurant in Chennai. I was approached by Meena ji for this project sometime back.

Amma, could you believe that I made close to 140 perfect looking Kozhukattais (steamed rice dumplings) yesterday for the shoot… Iniya  the actress who acted in the commercial, rushed towards me after the shoot and asked if she could take a few of those brown coloured yummy Kozhukattais  home.” I paused for a while sipping the strong & frothy filter coffee and stretched my legs to sit comfortably on the large wooden swing in my mother-in-law’s living room.

I don’t really like surprises, not the bad and big ones anyway. Whether in life or in my kitchen at home, I expect things to happen just the way they always have.

Hmm..if only wishes were horses…

The fact of the matter is that nothing is ever certain and life gives you strange surprise when you least expect from it.

It all started with scribbling recipes and struggling to click good food photos for Lite Bite, seven years back. And now I feel really lucky enough to stumble on a way of life that I not only like, but love to live.

There are three completed food photo-shoot assignments which are pending to be written about on Lite Bite. But I could not resist to pen down the experience and all the fun that went into yesterdays’ shoot for ‘The Park Hyatt’ with Kunal Daswani.

Recipe | Desi Health Bites – Tofu Pasanda aka Tofu in White Gravy

Creamy, mildly spicy and an exotic recipe, Paneer Pasanda is a very elaborate Indian dish served in many hi end restaurants in India. Cottage cheese are sliced into thin triangles which are stuffed with a paste of nuts, coated with chickpea flour marinate, deep fried and then dunked into rich creamy gravy to make a delicious Paneer Pasanda.

The preferred gravy for Paneer Pasanda is deep red in colour, which comes from ground tomatoes, deep fried onions and turmeric powder.

Ehh..not this oil…wait a minutemom said and moved away hurriedly only to be back with another bottle of oil in her hand.

She lovingly tilted the bottle and poured a thin stream of that dark coloured oil on my steaming hot savory Baafla baatis (steamed savory buns).

Baafla Baatis must be eaten only with ‘Kachchi Ghani til ka Tel’ (cold pressed sesame oil)” she told as a matter-of-fact and sat down on the chair next to me.

Back then, I never questioned her food choices….not that I knew much about it either 🙂
