Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip Wholewheat Cookies – A Melt-In-Mouth Crispy Bake

A lot has been going around with school working in full swing for children and the AFBHLS series on Lite Bite. My drafts which are already brimming with recipes and pictures is what I count on when there is less time to bake. Cookies are the most easiest of goodies which could be baked with very few ingredients in a shortest possible time.
I baked these Peanut butter wholewheat cookies at my mom’s place on her demand, to impress her neighbors who were eager to meet her food blogger daughter! She watched me baking these cookies and called her friends for evening tea. I could not get chocolate chips there and replaced the same with a handy Fruit & Nut Vochelle chocolate bar. And needless to say these peanut butter cookies made me a star of her colony
These cookies are real melt-in-mouth bake, crumbly and with a wonderful peanut butter taste. With a very few ingredients to go in it I love to bake whenever I have surplus peanut butter in hand. You can make your own peanut butter and store it in refrigerator for future use.
Ingredients;
(makes 6 large cookies)
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup powder sugar
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 1 tbsp. chocolate chips or chocolate bar
- A few drops of milk if required
Ready to go in the oven..
Method; take butter and sugar in a bowl and whisk together till soft and fluffy. Add peanut butter and mix again.
Add the wholewheat flour and the chocolate chips to the butter sugar mix. Make a soft ball of dough using your hands. If you feel the dough is too dry add a few drops of milk to bind it together. Make sure not to add too much liquid else the cookies will turn out soft.
Take small balls from the above dough and make a roll it in your palm. Grease a baking tray with a little oil and arrange all the cookies on it leaving a gap in between each cookie.. Flatten each cookie.
Bake at 180 for 20 minutes.
The Fruit & nuts Vochelle chocolate melted in the cookies and gave a wonderful crunchy bite with the nuts & dried fruits in it.
See the uneven surface of the cookies..these are the nuts peeping through.
Perfect with a cup of tea!
The chocolaty bite.
Wholewheat in the Peanut Butter cookies give a perfect grainy texture.
Notes;
- You can use any other nuts or avoid them altogether as you desire.
- If you don’t have an oven you can bake them in a heavy bottom wok or kadai. Fill the wok with sand and bake the cookies on a plate which can fit in the wok, till the cookies are done.
- Baking these peanut butter cookies with wholewheat makes it a healthy snack option.

This is a great recipe! SO simple and easy to make
DO you think i can use some oil instead of butter in it? Will have to make it for sure!!!
yeah I love this too. pb gives it a crumbly soft texture…would love to snack on this.
@Chinmayi, Yes you can use oil in these cookies. I normally bake cookies with vegetable oil. In fact if you can even avoid butter/oil altogether. Since PB has oil in it. But need to check on the dough consistency.
These looks delish! yum!

sanjeetha really wonderful since i am having basic model of oven i thought it is difficult for me too while i see ur suggestions indtead of doing in oven u can do it in the kadai with sand i will make it and let u know very soon thanks
@Latha, Basic model of oven is perfect for all kinds of baking. Try the cookies in that. In fact cakes come out better in these ovens than the convection or much advanced model ovens.
Delicious! I must buy some more peanut butter now and try making a gluten-free version! So nice that you were baking at your moms to impress her neighbors
