I just made the orange cake,it came out quite well. I am glad to have finally found a site that has healthy and egg less recipes.
I use both red and brown rice always and sometime I mix them with a little white rice when I have people coming to eat. We also use a lot of hand pounded rice, and that taste extremely good. I was also making idli/ adhai with brown/ red/ hand pounded rice.
These types of rice are perfect for making payasams, and sakrai pongal. i don’t need to soak them they turn out perfectly. But as you say it is always better to soak anything before for easier cooking. I even make biriyani, puliudarai , vangi bath with these type of rice.
Once again I thank you for writing recipes with health in your mind. Great job.

Hi Varsha !
Both red rice and brown rice are whole grain. While brown rice is obtained just after hulling the paddy. Red rice is processed from brown rice and is slightly milled to get the same. The red color of rice comes from some yeast growing bacteria on it.
For the same reason the red rice is not recommend for infants for the fear of developing food allergy. But its quite healthy for adults.
Nutritive value of red rice is almost 1/3 cup of red rice =80 calories.

Jaggery is the concentrated solid form of sugarcane juice. Loaded with many minerals, mainly iron, jaggery is a good substitute for white sugar.
