Eating Right – Back To School

Air water and food are the most natural and essential factors for life on Earth. . These three life-giving components were supposed to be consumed in their natural and pure form. The first two have escaped the cruel handling of human beings to some extent, but the last one – Food is adulterated to its maximum limit.

Where the discovery of fire has several advantages accrued to it, it also introduced cooked food, which was further complicated by the invention of spices and various methods of cooking, leading to various diseases.
I have a fair idea about the food pyramid, which I thought was good enough for my biology exam only 🙂

Recipe | Beaten Rice Poha – The joy of holding an award..

We all love to win, it makes us feel good.

Well, I can only remember winning a couple of small events during school days and receiving colourful plastic pencil boxes or laminated certificates from the principal…Those were small wins, but were wins nonetheless.

Though a little disappointment for not getting a ‘real trophy‘ still remain 🙂

Recipe | Beetroot Millet Rotis & Panchkuti Dal – Of food, lunchboxes and childhood memories..

Food is not about impressing people. It’s about making them feel comfortable.” Ina Garten

I don’t remember my lunch time in preschool or nursery days but I do have a vivid memory of it during my elementary school.

Mom was a working woman and as usual morning time used to be very hectic at home. She would cook breakfast & lunch for me and my brother and pack our dabbas before leaving for office at 8am.

Running around with cousins from one terrace to another, attending family weddings and eating simple home cooked food on wood fire…childhood was so much fun at granny’s home.

Summer vacations were always welcomed, when extended families and cousins would all come over to our large joint family house for holidays in Bhilwara, Rajasthan.

Recipe | Chocolate Brownie – All you need is a new morning..

I have to mention about a person who played an important role in this project. I didn’t know how to use social media network or to even send a mail. She is the one who opened my Gmail account and started my facebook page called DSOFT. She clicked pictures of the clothes we stitched and uploaded on the page.”

Sanjeeta, my tech-guru, please stand up where ever you areSaranya looked at me from the stage and smiled.

I shyly stood and waved to the audience. I could see my son smiling in disbelief after hearing her mom referred as ‘tech-guru’ 🙂

Another fruitful year comes to an end. Well, you don’t need a new year to make a change, all you need is a new morning.

Recipe |Tamarind based recipes aka Kara Kuzhambu and Puli Kaichal – When technology gets the better of you

Always take a picture for everywhere you go; if you don’t, then all you just lost was the precious memories and moments” ―Inspiracreatiflife.

It wasn’t too long ago that the only time I would pick up my phone was to just receive calls or send messages.

I am not a tech-savvy person, given a choice I would rather grind my spices old-fashioned way using mortal and pestle than switching on my blender.

I do operate my microwave occasionally and slide in a CD to listen to songs sometimes. But then, if I can get my children to do the task for me, all the better 🙂

Recipe | Ginger preserve aka Inji Thokku – When nature reminds us that she is supreme

The sky went from dark to almost black, followed by delicate drops of rain. Soon, the rain drops grew bigger & heavier and turned into furious storm.

It rained and rained and rained…till the city of Chennai and its suburbs were submerged under water. The devastation all across the city is far beyond the words to describe.

The evening on 1st of December was when the nightmare started for everyone who were out for work. Torrential rains, power cut and neck deep water in most of the areas made the city traffic cripple and brought the entire city to standstill.

Recipe & Food Styling | Quick & easy Marinara Sauce – Life isn’t always going to be picture perfect

As far as I remember, Tea was the very first thing I learnt to prepare when I was in my middle school.

I was playing an important role in an English play at school and wanted to practice my lines when everyone at home were asleep.

Mom never introduced us to drinking tea or coffee during our school days, but I knew that a cup of hot tea is my best bet to keep awake for long. So ‘tea’ it was.
